Learn more about the Marketing and Communications Office

Hi everyone, my name is Craig Draeger and I am the AMS Director of Communications for the 2017-2018 term! The purpose of my Office is to manage the two-way flow of information between the AMS and students, while also helping to build and foster our relationships with outside stakeholders. The core mandate of my role is to ensure that students remain informed about the services, opportunities, and support available in the AMS, while incorporating the feedback that you provide into all that we do as an organization.

My personal journey at Queen’s and in the AMS is atypical one, having completed my first degree between 2009 and 2013 while serving as AMS Clubs Manager (now Director of Clubs) and subsequently as a member of the AMS Board of Directors. I returned last fall to pursue an honours degree and have been grateful for the opportunity to once again contribute to student life in both volunteer and full-time capacities.

Being a mature pupil in student government has been a unique experience to say the least, but it has reinforced to me that everyone at Queen’s has a place and a home in the AMS, as well as a unique role to play in student leadership. It has also underscored to me the importance of building an AMS that works for everyone, and breaking down the walls that discourage involvement and engagement with student life.

To that end, I have invested a lot of my time so far in making our outreach efforts to students transparent and relatable. I’m always looking for feedback on the AMS website and Facebook page, our various recruitment and information campaigns, and the other activities we undertake throughout the year.

Another key initiative for the Marketing and Communications Office in the coming year is to enhance the marketing research that we collect through surveys and student focus groups. While we undertake transformative projects like JDUC revitalization, direct student input has never been more important to us.

Our first open survey of the year is live now at: AMS Transit and Transportation Survey 2017. By filling it out, you are helping to shape our lobbying efforts regarding bus service and other forms of transit and active transportation infrastructure in Kingston. One of you will also start the school year off with a $100 pre-paid credit card, just for participating.

As we embark on another year together, remember that all of us working in the AMS are only a phone call or email away! You can reach me at or drop by JDUC 052 any time to offer your opinion on the marketing, promotions, and overarching communications of the AMS.
