Five things not to miss this year at Homecoming this year

The leaves are beginning to change colour, the temperature is slowly dropping, midterms are just around the corner, and the smell of pumpkin spice everything is in the air. What could all of these signs point to? Homecoming 2017 of course! That’s right, it’s Hoco SZN and we couldn’t be more excited. Homecoming at Queen’s brings together students of every faculty, and alumni to celebrate school spirit and dress from head-to-toe in tricolour. We have been working around the clock to ensure another amazing event, so whether it’s your first or tenth Homecoming, here are some awesome things happening this year that you definitely don’t want to miss out on!

  1. Engineers Without Borders Annual Pumpkin Smash

Date: Friday, October 13, 2017 – 12:00pm to 3:00pm

Location: Agnes Benidickson Field

Join Queen’s Engineers Without Borders for the return of the famous annual Pumpkin Smash! EWB is an organization that strives to create global change by investing in people, ventures and ideas to eliminate poverty. They seek to accelerate Africa’s development and unlock the potential of it’s people. So go grab a slice of pumpkin pie and some hot chocolate and watch at 2:30 pm as they drop a 500 lb pumpkin from the sky!

  1. Men’s Rugby: Queens v.s. UofT

Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 – 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Location: Nixon Field

Cheer on the Queen’s Men’s Rugby team as they take on the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues in their annual Homecoming match at Nixon Field!

  1. FootBall Game: Queen’s v.s. York

Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 – 1:00pm to 4:30pm

Location: Richardson Stadium

The Queen’s Gaels will face the York Lions for the 2017 Homecoming Game in Richardson Stadium. Kick-off is 1:00 pm. Learn more about the revitalised Richardson Stadium, including information on parking and other amenities.

  1. ReUnion Street Festival

Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 – 7:00pm to Sunday, October 15, 2017 – 2:00am

Location: Union Street, Between University Avenue and Division Street

Come be a part of a new Queen’s tradition and join students, alumni and friends for a free street concert right in the middle of campus! Past concert headliners have been Juno Award-winning rock band The Arkells! This year’s headliner will be revealed a week before Homecoming, so keep an eye out for the big reveal! The street festival itself is free of charge but tickets are required for the licensed area. Tickets can be purchased through Homecoming Registration for $13 or in person at the festival for $15.

  1. Bleed Tricolour on the Streets

Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017 – All Day, All Night

Location: Everywhere

Don’t forget to wear everything red, yellow, and blue throughout all of Homecoming! Stop by the Tricolour Outlet in the JDUC and pick up some cool gear to show your school spirit! Here is an awesome ‘Loco4Hoco’ playlist that you may want to have going throughout the day!

Also, make sure to look out for the AMS Snapchat filter contest. Use our Snapchat filter to show how you and your friends celebrate Homecoming and Tricolour spirit at a Gaels game or ReUnion Street Festival. Save your photo and direct message it to the AMS Instagram account for a chance to win a Sony Wireless Speaker (valued at $279.99). The winner will be announced on Tuesday, October 17.
