Experience:
I have been an AMS employee since my second year of undergrad. I have observed and experienced for myself the benefits of joining this organization and buying-in to their processes, with nothing but positive takeaways for myself. I wanted to run for Vice-President of Operations to continue my work with the organization and have a greater impact on our student body through the AMS services. I’m grateful for my past experiences that have given me a solid foundation in commencing this role and embracing learning opportunities along the way.
I am most excited to, for the first time, experience the AMS services together in the heart of campus, in the John Deutsh University Centre (JDUC). Services such as The Brew & Queen’s Pub Restuarant & Bar will make its return to the JDUC, and I am excited to work with the head manager to continue our work in representing the diversity of students at Queen’s University.
I hope to create a standard and a sense of responsibility for those who choose to get involved with the AMS. With annual turnover at the executive and management level, I am eager to ensure fluidity remains year after year in the values and objectives the AMS strives to achieve. In personal achievement, I hope to get a better understanding of what it is I would like to do with my professional career after graduation and relevant skills I can apply to my professional career.
Now that elections are de-slated, this means you run alone, no team of three. It is scary, it can be overwhelming, you may feel like you have no idea where to start. I encourage you to first ask yourself why you want to be an executive – do it for only the right reasons. This is not a resume builder, a club, or your typical faculty society or student governance structure. This is a professional working environment and an organization responsible for representing 20 000 students that operates on a budget of nearly twenty million dollars. Consult relevant stakeholders and lean on your support system. Remember, just because we have de-slated and you are running alone, does not mean that you are alone. Your support system will play a crucial part in your ability to believe in yourself, and I encourage you to start your preparation early if this is something you aim to take on and find success within.
