Statement of the Judicial Affairs Office on the Commerce Society Assembly

To whom it may concern,

The Judicial Affairs Office received a complaint pertaining to the integrity of the Commerce Society General Meetings. Please note that the Judicial Affairs Office takes complaints seriously, and an investigation is underway. Additionally, per Part C, section 1.3 of the Judicial Policy, an interim measure has been approved by the Secretariat, Judicial Disputes Manager, Chief Governance Officer, Judicial Committee Chair to postpone the upcoming ComSoc Annual General Meeting. In addition, the Commerce Society may not hold any meetings of their Assembly, nor make any decisions via an e-vote or any other format until further notice. Interim measures are not subject to appeal.

Any commerce student who had items on the agenda and/or has urgent matters they wished to address through ComSoc Assembly should contact the AMS Secretariat immediately. While we recognize the importance of student governance and democracy, the nature of the concerns and proceedings is such that this extraordinary measure is deemed justified to prevent further escalations. We appreciate your patience and understanding and we ask that the privacy of all involved parties be respected during this process.

Any attempt to undermine the ongoing proceeding, or actions that contravene with the interim measure may be considered a contempt of the judicial system, and subject to additional proceedings. Any questions related to the ongoing proceedings should be directed to Sylvie Garabedian (AMS Secretariat), at , who serves as the political representative of the Judicial System.

ABOUT – the Judicial Affairs Office is the investigative branch of the AMS and retains full independence and autonomy in the administration of complaints brought to its attention.
