AMS Equity Awards

The AMS Equity Awards recognizes the contributions of student leaders to advancing and promoting principles of Indigenization – Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (I-EDIA). Three students will be selected annually, and each award carries as value of $1,000. The Selection Committee make decisions based on the contributions of the student to the Queen’s Community, and the promotion of human rights on-campus.

Any student who is considered a member of the Alma Mater Society and who has paid the AMS membership fee in the year of their nomination.

Any student at the University may submit a nomination for themselves (self-nomination) or another student.

Equity Award Descriptions

The Three Equity Award Descriptions (each valued at $1,000):

Fostering Wellbeing in Equity

This is awarded to a student leader for their commitment to improving the wellbeing of equity-deserving communities and building a culture of care and compassion.

Special Considerations: Nominations are assessed for how the work done by the nominee helped build a safe space for equity-deserving students, and how it improved the well-being of said students.

Innovation & Impact in Equity Award

This is awarded to a student leader whose creativity, innovation, and initiative in advancing equity, accessibility, inclusion, anti-oppression, or social justice has led to a meaningful and positive impact within the Queen’s Community.

Special Considerations: Nominations are assessed for how the work done by the nominee demonstrates creativity, novelty, or innovation in addressing equity-related issues, and the extent to which those efforts have produced meaningful, sustainable, or lasting positive change within the Queen’s Community.

Advocacy in Equity Awards

This is awarded to a student leader who demonstrates bravery and/or challenges oppressive narratives, advocating for human rights and social justice.

Special Considerations: Nominations are assessed for how the work done by the nominee showcased resilience and leadership, how it inspired others and how it furthered the discussion on achieving social justice on campus.
