JDUC Update June 2024
We’re counting down the days until we begin moving into the JDUC, so to get everyone excited we’re sharing some more details about the building!
The re-opening of the JDUC is a warm welcome home to the AMS offices. VPOPS Chowdhury is pumped to have the AMS open to students in the heart of campus, and head back to almost everything AMS being under 1 roof. All the AMS services will move to the JDUC (except the Common Ground Coffeehouse which will remain in the Queen’s Centre, and The Journal which is currently located at 190 University Ave and projected to move into the Queen’s Centre). The Cogro we know and love will be opening a sister location of the coffeehouse called The Brew inside the JDUC!
Originally, the JDUC only had 1 accessible entrance. The revitalized JDUC was designed with accessibility in mind, and thus is accessible from every entrance.
When students were surveyed in the early days of the JDUC revitalization project, they listed communal areas to study and hang out between classes as a high priority. This priority has stayed imporanant across every generation of students. The JDUC features a beautiful agora; “meeting place” in ancient Greek. VPUA Osunde is excited to watch the space fill up with students for casual lounging and socializing before, in between, and after classes. Below is a rendering of what the space will look like.
But wait, there’s more! The JDUC will have more rooms bookable to students through the Student Life Centre. President Rocchi is excited for the 14 new bookable rooms in total. Of those 14 spaces, there will be up to 9 new available meeting rooms, and 5 new available spaces fitted for several types of events.
The Exec team cannot wait for everyone to get together at the returning Queen’s Pub Restaurant and Bar, featuring a patio of 110 seats there’ll be room for everyone.
We can’t wait to come home, stay tuned for more JDUC updates coming your way.
