Don’t Steal Street Signs: Street Sign Did Not Consent!

It is that time of the year again, where the streets turn green, the gingers run, people climb on top of their house (please don’t do this), and everyone becomes Irish for the day. It’s St. Patrick’s Day at Queen’s!
Every year without fail, Kingston wakes up the following day to several street signs that have mysteriously disappeared and reappeared as decoration in student residences or houses. Somewhere in Vic, Morris, or maybe even a house on Aberdeen, has a new addition to its wall and no explanation on how it got there. As you sit in your room looking at the new sign you acquired, you might be thinking, “that was worth it”. Although it may seem like a rare local collectable, it is never worth it to steal street signs. What about the potential charge of mischief? How would this look on your record? Could this impact you in the future?
Maybe the next time you think about bagging a street sign as a free souvenir, consider your future. On top of the potential repercussions, trust me, you do not want to be carrying that heavy street sign all the way back to your residence or house.
Keep the green memories, lose the green signs. Luck will not be on your side with Union St. in your hand.
Have a fun (sign-less) weekend Gaels!
