By Students, For Students
Every time you grab a chai latte from Cogro for your 8:30am class, catch up with friends over a plate of nachos at QP, buy a bus ticket from Tricolour Outlet, or print an essay at P&CC you spent all night working on, your dollars are going right to your classmates and friends here at Queen’s. Every student service is non-profit and run by the dedicated students in our community.
The money that you spend at a student-run service goes right back to students. But what does that mean?
It means that during the 2012-2013 school year, $3,192,955.00 was paid in wages and salaries to AMS Service Staff and Managers. That is nearly $3.2 MILLION dollars paid back to students for their hard work and dedication while employed at your AMS services. (this figure does not include volunteer honoraria or the salaries for commissioners, directors, officers, permanent staff or the AMS Executive).
That number would not be as high if students like you weren’t the loyal customers that you are. Student Appreciation Week is a small way for us to thank you – the students who work at our services, and the students who choose to support our services. For every tea you buy, every page you print, every tank top you wear, and every breadstick you enjoy, we would like to say thanks! This is what the concept of being student-run is all about.
You can find more information about applying to work at one of your AMS services here. Be sure to apply online by March, 14th at 4pm.
Watch the By Students, For Students video here, and share it before the end of Friday to be entered in a chance to win a new iPad Mini!
