Official Statement by Vice-President Nurzynski and Vice-President Perisa on the resignation of President Amer
We are writing to inform students of recent developments concerning the leadership of the Alma Mater Society (AMS).
On Friday, February 27, a motion of impeachment for the AMS President was brought forward. The motion was accompanied by a letter of support signed by all Faculty Society Presidents. In accordance with the AMS Constitution, a Special Assembly was subsequently called for March 13 which allows for the required two-week period of consideration.
Following that, as of Friday, February 27, AMS President submitted her resignation to AMS Assembly, to take effect Monday, March 9. In response, we have called a Special Assembly for Tuesday, March 3, to formally accept the President’s resignation and discuss the next steps.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, February 25, the Vice-President (Operations) had notified the Executive and the General Manager her intent to resign for personal reasons, effective March 23. However, following the impeachment motion and subsequent resignation of the AMS President, she determined it was in the best interest of the Society to remain in her role to support leadership stability. She has notified the Executive and General Manager that she no longer plans to submit a formal resignation to Assembly. She will serve the remainder of her term until April 30, 2026.
We remain committed to ensuring that AMS staff are supported and that the roles and duties of the President are carried out effectively until a new President is appointed by Assembly for the remainder of the term. We will provide AMS Assembly with an update on the selection of the President at the March 10 meeting.
AMS services, advocacy, and operations will continue without disruption. Our priority remains the well-being, representation, and trust of our members. We are proud of the many AMS successes in 2025/26 and remain committed to serving Queen’s students as we were elected to do for the remainder of our terms.
Sincerely,
Vice-President Nurzynski & Vice-President Perisa
