The AMS Clubs Commission Glow Up!

Running a club this year? Or thinking of starting one? The AMS Clubs Commission just rolled out some major changes to make your life easier.
There’s a lot more support with three assistant managers, each specializing in their own area. Plus, various new opportunities!

There will be two extra club fairs, a hiring fair, a virtual job board, and even a ResSoc x AMS Clubs Connection to help clubs team up with presidents to promote events and host events. You will also get to see us more often, connecting directly with clubs through monthly boothing to answer questions and take so me load off of your shoulders. We also will be having some in-person and online training options for leaders to feel more confident in running their clubs.
Questions? No problem!
- We’ve upgraded the club directory and website for general questions. Still need more help? We have implemented a ticketing helpdesk so your questions go to the right person.
- We will also have more frequent Instagram posts, newsletters, emails, and all-club emails archived in the AMS Dropbox so you don’t have to dig through your inbox.
We have a brand-new sponsorship package and intentional collabs with other AMS commissions. Looking for all AMS related events and information?
- Find it on the new AMS calendar that has built-in reminders and a big-picture of the year.
- Planning on hosting an event, check out the Event Planning page on our website for more information.
Essentially, there’s less confusion and more resources for all of you!
Short and Sweet Ratification and Re-ratification
Looking to get your club ratified, look no further! With shorter ratification periods, the AMS is ready to support your club and your needs. AMS Club Commissioner, Xian Tronsgard, explains ratification: ‘If your club gets ratified in the fall, you’re officially recognized by January 1. Winter ratification? You’re in by May 1.
Pre-existing clubs, we didn’t forget you, re-ratification period is shorter for you too. The two new components of the form are based on questions asked by our predecessors to increase clarity, efficiency and higher quality submissions. The first component is environmental scans that prompts the club to justify their mandate and how it is different from other clubs with similarities. The second component is the club operational plan that ensures the club’s longevity by asking questions about the club’s plan in the long-run.
This may seem intimidating at first, however, we are providing support through the ratification package, troubleshooting opportunities, and in-person support to ensure everything runs smoothly. As Commissioner Tronsgard states, “We are the first commission to provide this level of support which reflects in our greater capacity and the groundbreaking institutional knowledge from past teams”.
Overall, there is a lot of support for ratification and re-ratification via workshops and club skills workshops for new clubs to learn the requirements to be ratified and ensure success and longevity.
Club Caucus Without the Chaos
Here’s a big one: Club Caucuses are no longer mandatory. Instead, motions get emailed, and clubs have 72 hours to vote online, after the club caucus. Plus, summaries will go up on Instagram so everyone stays in the loop. This makes caucus less stressful and more flexible while still giving clubs a voice.
2025-2026 Clubs Here’s Where it’s At
We know change can be a little bumpy, but this is really a year of transition and growth. Our goal? To make clubs more supported than ever before. And just like we give clubs grace when they slip up, we’re giving ourselves that same grace as we test out these new systems. The goal for the commissions team is to be educational rather than punitive overall and ensure fairness between us and you.
