Official Statement About Harmful Video
Dear fellow students,
By now, you may have seen or heard about a Kingston-based video circulating on social media that contains antisemitic, transphobic, and sexually violent rhetoric.
While the participants in this video were not Queen’s students, and the video was not shot on the Queen’s campus, we wanted to make it clear that messages like these are not welcome in our community. We know that the rhetoric in the video does not reflect the values or principles of our 21,000+ students.
These harmful ideologies fuel violence wherever they appear, and contribute to a broader climate in which equity-deserving people feel unsafe. No student should have to worry about their safety or dignity because of their gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or any other aspect of who they are. Every student deserves to live, play, work, and study in ways that affirm and celebrate their humanity.
We encourage Kingston Police to fully investigate this incident and expect that social media companies like TikTok and Meta will remove this hateful content from their platform while continuing to take action against hate.
For those hurt by this video, or other incidents like it, help is available through a variety of supports at the university. We have included a list below. If you are unsure where to begin, any of these services can connect you to further supports.
We remain committed to challenging hate and supporting those most affected by it, and to helping ensure that all students—past, present, and future—can prioritize their humanity first.
