THREADS: Every Thread Tells a Story
An Evening Enriched With Culture and Talent
On November 16th, Queen’s community members came together in the name of diversity, self expression, and celebration to share a beautiful display of creative pieces, cultural performances, and love for their culture. The first ever annual Threads Talent and Fashion Show was hosted by the ASUS, AMS Social Issues Commision, AMS Commission of Environmental Sustainability, Students of Colour Collective (SOCC) and Yellow House in the stunning Wallace Hall (JDUC). The cultural show was organized and executed by the Social Issues Commission, ASUS Equity, Students of Colour Collective (SOCC), and Yellow House, leaving the audience captivated and immersed in diverse cultures.

A Talent Show With A Charitable Goal
One of the key aspects of THREADS was its charitable mission! All funds raised will be matched by ASUS and donated to Almost Home, which is a Kingston-based non-profit that offers a supportive “home-away-from-home” for families whose children are undergoing medical care at local hospitals!
Now, a little more about the groups involved who helped make this come to life:

- First off, The Yellow House is a dedicated space that supports Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous and Students of Colour! It offers numerous community building programs and helps challenge and promote equity issues on campus. Check out their instagram to learn more about Yellow House’s mission and any upcoming events!
- Next up is the Students of Colour Collective aka SOCC! SOCC is a community space for racialized students to connect, feel supported and share their experiences on campus through events and peer support!
- In the same realm, the AMS Social Issues Commission (SIC) is all about making campus more inclusive and supportive. They run events, campaigns and programs focused on equity, mental health and gender issues!
- Lastly, the AMS Commission of Environmental Sustainability (CES) is the go to group for all things related to sustainability at Queen’s. They lead eco-friendly projects, push for greener campus policies and help the student community get involved in climate action!
