The Faces Behind Your AMS Blogs, Website, and Front Desk!

Ever wondered who’s writing your AMS blogs, managing the website, or the smiling faces behind the AMS front desk? Meet the amazing team bringing it all to life! Now, let’s get to know the team behind the scenes a little better!

Mae Sacamay – Director of Communications
Say hello to Mae, the best Director of Communications who’s quietly making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes! Mae is in her fourth year studying Linguistics, and she joined the AMS Comms Office because she’s fascinated by how language shapes the way we connect and understand each other. As someone who studies how we use language to connect, and who cares deeply about equity and inclusion, Mae brings a thoughtful lens to everything she works on.
In her role, Mae oversees a bunch of important things around here. She manages the AMS website and ensures our communications are consistent and accessible. She’s super organized, always thinking a few steps ahead, and has a quiet confidence that makes her such a steady presence on the team.
When she’s not managing a hundred tabs at once, Mae’s recharging with her favourite things: hanging out with her two cats, baking something sweet, or curling up with a good book. Whether she’s rearranging her space or tidying up the Comms calendar, Mae is always about bringing a sense of calm and clarity wherever she goes.
Mae’s combination of creativity, care, and calm makes her an absolute rockstar on the team—and we’re so glad she’s here!

Roxannne Cheung – Digital Communications Supervisor
If something looks good, runs smoothly, and feels just right on our digital platforms, there’s a good chance Roxanne had a hand in it.
Roxanne is in her second year of Life Sciences, and she joined the Communications Office to step outside of her usual circle and explore something totally different. For her, this role is all about connection—whether that’s meeting new people or working on creative projects she wouldn’t normally get to do in a science-based program. She’s excited to be part of a team that lets her think in new ways and be part of the larger Queen’s community.
From content planning to improving the website experience, Roxanne helps shape how the Queen’s community connects with the AMS online ensuring everything feels cohesive, accessible, and engaging. She also previously served as the Communications Deputy Director, where she helped the Director of Communications put together the Annual Report and other very important administrative duties!
Outside of class and Comms work, Roxanne is a total podcast enthusiast. She’s drawn to deep, thought-provoking conversations—whether they dive into philosophy, theology, or just the quirks of everyday life. For her, podcasts are a ticket to curiosity and inspiration. She loves hearing different perspectives, and often, a single conversation can spark a whole chain of new ideas. Listening isn’t just entertainment for Roxanne—it’s a way to think, wonder, and get excited about the world around her.
Roxanne brings a reflective, curious energy to the team, and we’re so excited to have her exploring this creative space with us this year!

Media Hosseiny – Executive Assistant
Say hi to amazing executive assistant, Media Hosseiny — our go-to for keeping things organized, connected, and running smoothly behind the scenes!

She joined the team to gain hands-on experience and build meaningful connections within the Queen’s community—and she’s already proving to be an integral part of keeping everything (and everyone) on track.
Media’s role touches a bit of everything—helping with coordination, planning, and ensuring that the creative chaos runs smoothly. She loves being part of a team where ideas are constantly flowing, and collaboration is at the heart of everything. It’s the perfect space for her to blend her organizational skills with her natural curiosity about how people and ideas connect.
When she’s not juggling details or keeping the team on track, Media dives into her creative side. She loves sketching, escaping into the world of anime, and staying energized with workouts. And when she’s hanging out with friends or family, you can
bet on a lively board game night—full of laughter, strategy, and just the right amount of friendly competition.
Media brings such a balanced energy to the team—organized but creative, calm but full of ideas. She’s dependable, kind, and always ready to help things run a little smoother. We’re so glad that we have such a great member in our Comms crew this year!

In her role, Ariel is the friendly face and dependable force behind many of the team’s projects. Her attention to detail and thoughtful approach ensure that the office operates efficiently while maintaining a welcoming and positive atmosphere. In fact, she’s the one who wrote the blog you’re reading right now!

Melanie Nguyen – Executive Assistant
Meet Melanie Nguyen — the friendly face at the front desk, always ready to help and keep things running smoothly!
Melanie is in her third year studying Psychology, and she joined the AMS Communications Office because she’s inspired by the impact AMS has on student life. From stopping by the AMS booth during O-Week to getting emails that helped her navigate campus services, she’s always noticed how much AMS does to make student life easier. Joining the team as an Executive Assistant lets her be in the middle of the action, connecting with students, supporting the office, and making a difference every day.
In her role, Melanie helps coordinate communication across the office, assists students, and ensures that the front desk runs efficiently. She thrives in fast-paced situations, enjoys problem-solving on the spot, and loves using her people-facing skills to make everyone feel welcome. Even though this role was new to her, it’s been the perfect opportunity to build skills and stay engaged with the student community.
Outside of Comms, Melanie finds calm and creativity in visual arts, taking her artsy side out—whether it’s crafting, sketching, or photography, she loves immersing herself in projects with music on, letting her imagination take the lead. Gaming is another favorite hobby, offering her a fun way to unwind, spend time with friends, and reset after busy days.

Miguel joined the team because he’s passionate about growing student engagement and building stronger connections across campus. As an Economics student, Miguel has a natural knack for strategy and analysis, but he balances that with creativity and an easygoing energy that makes him such a great teammate.
Outside of Comms, Miguel’s world is filled with movement — from following the latest stock trends to hitting the gym and catching up on sports with friends. He’s passionate about finance and trading, always fascinated by how global markets shift and evolve, but he also knows the value of stepping away from the numbers to enjoy a good game or a workout. It’s that balance between focus and fun that makes him who he is.

If you’ve ever seen someone strolling by the water with music in their headphones and a thrifted jacket that looks effortlessly cool — chances are, you’ve just spotted Emily. Meet Emily Chambers, one of our amazing Communications Volunteers!
Emily is a fourth-year Environmental Science and Geography student who’s passionate about connection — to people, to nature, and to the Queen’s community. language is a window into connection, and she’s always eager to learn a few new words wherever she goes.
When she’s not studying or planning her next trip, you’ll probably find her in the kitchen baking something sweet. Her specialty is banana bread (and rumor has it, it’s amazing). Baking, for Vani, is her way to relax, be creative, and bring a little joy to the people around her.
