Accessibility Initiatives, a committee under the Social Issues Commission, provides grants for initiatives designed to improve physical, academic, and social accessibility for Queen’s students across campus. These grants will be awarded to initiatives that best meet the eligibility requirements as listed in the grant application.

The grant selection committee meets to review application at the end of each month. To be considered during this month’s application round, please submit your application by 4pm of the last Friday of the month.

Equity Grants are provided through the Social Issues Commission to promote the fostering of an anti-oppressive and safe environment in the Queen’s community. These grants target organizations engaged in community outreach, educational campaigns, and awareness raising projects that meet the eligibility requirements listed in the grant application. In order to be eligible for this grant, you must have the following requirements: 

• Any equity clubs on campus that are doing equity work are eligible to apply.
• Students/ student groups may apply once per term.

The goal of the Sustainable Action Fund (SAF) is to improve and promote sustainability at Queen’s by providing funding to relevant events and initiatives that have been applied for during the application period.

The fund has been granted to a variety of initiatives including conferences, a greenhouse, a residence composting imitative, and a secure bike storage facility. This is an excellent opportunity to fund undergraduate projects focused on different aspects of sustainability.

The Black History Month Grant is a new initiative through the Social Issues Commission, with matched funding provided by the University, that aims to take a step towards recognizing anti-Black racism at Queen’s. The grant hopes to provide tangible support for Black student groups on campus and for Black History Month programming and events.

To be eligible, the celebration, education or advocacy around Black identities and Blackness must be at the core of the organization’s mandate, with goals to provide inclusive Black History Month programming. The ORT-CAC Equity Grant supports Queen’s faculties in creating safe, anti-oppressive Orientation Week programming by reducing financial barriers. It provides supplemental funding for equity-focused events that highlight and celebrate equity-deserving groups and topics, helping ensure inclusive and accessible experiences across all Orientation Roundtable (ORT) partner faculties.

In order to be eligible for this grant, you must have the following requirements: 

• Any Orientation Planning Group affiliated with a Member Society is eligible to
  apply for this grant.
• Only one (1) application may be submitted per application cycle.

The purpose of the Student Graduation Bursary is to enhance financial accessibility for all AMS student members attending convocation. The bursary is designed to subsidize, partially or in full, fees associated with graduation whereby the student would otherwise be unable to participate for reasons relating to financial hardship.  

To be eligible for the Student Graduation Bursary, applicants must be an undergraduate student at Queen’s University graduating the year of the application and have paid their AMS membership fee for the academic year prior. The AMS has established a bursary to assist a limited number of students facing significant financial need in paying for their student activity fees. Established in 2014 and value variable up to a maximum of the value of the AMS Mandatory Student Fees each year.

Students can apply for the bursary through the General bursary application available on SOLUS. There will not be a separate application. If you have any questions or concerns about this bursary, please contact the Vice President (University Affairs) at .

The AMS Taxi Bursary exists to assist students who have temporary mobility difficulties with extra costs they may face. Students may apply for this bursary through Student Awards.

 In order to be eligible, you must provide a doctor’s note verifying your temporary disability and document your taxi usage. The maximum available amount is $250.

The AGC (Academic Grievance Center) Academic Accessibility bursary is provided by the External Affairs Commission. This bursary is intended to help undergraduate students in financial need with non-tuition costs associated with their courses such as: textbooks, lab equipment and PPE, field trips, and more. If you are unable to afford these costs, or could use some help to afford them, this bursary is intended to subsidize your non-tuition academic expenses, partially or in full.

To be eligible for the AGC Academic Accessibility bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

• Are a currently enrolled undergraduate student at Queen’s University 
• Have paid their AMS Membership Fee 
• Are currently enrolled in at least one class
• Demonstrate financial need 

The purpose of the Student Experience Bursary is to enhance the financial accessibility of events run by AMS ratified clubs or Faculty Societies for all AMS members. The bursary is designed to subsidize, partially or in full, fees required for events where a student would otherwise be unable to participate for reasons relating to financial hardship.

To be eligible for the Student Experience Bursary, students must demonstrate their financial need by completing the application form above. The International Student Bursary allows international students to apply for help in alleviating any financial burdens they may be facing. This bursary will be open only to international students and can cover costs such as rent, textbooks, food, tuition, etc. Applicants will be able to apply to the grant only once a semester. In order to be eligible for this bursary, you must have the following requirements: 

• Any international student who is considered a member of the Alma Mater Society and who has paid the AMS membership fee in the year of the application.
• Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 60% course load (15 credits/ 3 courses or more) and is in good academic standing as defined by their program.
• Applicants must be currently residing for study in Kingston.

Established in May 2016 by the Alma Mater Society and the Society of Graduate and Professional Students, and awarded on the basis of self-identified need on the part of the applicant who requires financial support to attend healthcare appointments outside of City of Kingston, generally with a Specialist. The amount of funding for the Healthcare Travel Bursary is limited.
