Marching Forward: AMS at the Kingston Pride Parade!
On Saturday, June 14th, the AMS joined hundreds of joyful community members in downtown Kingston to celebrate Pride 2025—and what a perfect day it was. With the sun shining high, a fresh breeze rolling through Confederation Park, and smiles in every direction, the energy was nothing short of beautiful.
This year, our presence at the parade was proudly led by the Social Issues Commission (SIC) and the Peer Support Centre (PSC), two AMS commissions and services deeply rooted in care, connection, and advocacy! At the front of the AMS group were Anne Fu (PSC Head Manager), Randy Liu (PSC Assistant Manager for Queers for Peers), Edward Sy (SIC Commissioner, Internal), and Mujeedat Lekuti (SIC Commissioner, External). Their arms full of hand-painted signs and hearts full of purpose. Together, they handed out stickers and pamphlets filled with resources for 2SLGBTQ+ students at Queen’s, ensuring every step forward was also a step toward support and visibility.
At Confederation Park, the PSC team added something extra special: an Origami Star Jar. Passersby were invited to write messages of love, affirmation, or encouragement and fold them into stars, contributing to a growing collection of positivity! Anyone could take a star, leave one, or both. A small gesture, but one that turned into a moving exchange of positivity among strangers.
Behind the lens capturing this joy was Media Hosseiny, Executive Assistant, who spent the afternoon walking through the parade route snapping photos of the glowing, colourful crowd—many of whom proudly held the AMS Pride Banner.
And this celebration didn’t start on parade day. On Friday, AMS staff came together to paint signs and get parade-ready. Big thanks to Nathan Zhe (Director of Marketing), Eve McGuire (Human Resources Manager), Jaya Sigurdson (Talent Acquisition Manager), Brooke Schmidt (Commissioner of Environmental Sustainability), and Alyssa Perisa (Vice President of University Affairs) for your care and creativity behind the scenes.
Being at Pride isn’t just about showing up—it’s about showing up together. And in every sign, sticker, and conversation, the AMS was proud to stand with our 2SLGBTQ+ students and the wider Kingston community.
Happy Pride, Queen’s. We’re proud to stand with you!
