Meet Racheal Reddy: Secretariat
Meet Racheal Reddy, the new Secretariat! She is thoughtful, dedicated, and so passionate about the work she does at the AMS! Racheal is a third-year Psychology major (Class of 2027!) also earning a Certificate in Law, a combination that perfectly reflects her interest in understanding people and the systems that impact them.
Why governance?
When we asked Racheal what inspired her to take on this role, she didn’t even hesitate. She has a deep passion for governance, structure, and the role policy plays in shaping a fair and effective student experience. “I’ve always loved the governance side of things,” she explains. “I want to be a lawyer, and I want to help people use the law to their advantage.” This job felt like the perfect training ground — a place where she could blend her academic background, her personal interests, and her long-term goals into something meaningful for the student body.
What exactly does she do?
If you’ve ever wondered who keeps the AMS’ policies organized, accessible, and up-to-date… it’s Racheal. “I oversee the governance,” she says simply, but the work behind that sentence is huge. She works closely with all four streams of policy, such as judicial, governmental, corporate, and employee, to ensure they’re consistent, understandable, and reflective of the needs of students today.
Right now, Racheal and her team are deeply immersed in one of the biggest annual undertakings: AMS elections and referenda. “I’m really excited this year because we’re separating the two processes,” she shares. “We think that’ll make everything much clearer and easier for students.” It’s a major structural change, and she’s proud of how it will help promote student engagement and make governance feel more accessible and less intimidating.
But she also has a fun personal project on the go… she’s working toward getting her motorcycle. Yes, a motorcycle! She already has her M2 license and is dreaming of her own bike soon.
Outside the office
When she’s not in meetings or reviewing policy documents, you’ll find her either baking something new, or diving into artistic hobbies like painting and drawing. Why does she love baking so much, you ask? “I love the process and the fruits of your labour!” she laughs.
And of course, she’s a nature girl at heart! Long walks, hikes, and anything outdoors. Those quiet moments help her balance the high-responsibility work she does every day.
She’s also always down for a CoGro run — ideally for her go-to drink, an iced matcha with vanilla!
