Housing Resource Centre: Supporting Students Where They Live

Finding a safe and affordable place to live in Kingston can be tough, and that is exactly why the AMS Housing Resource Centre exists. The HRC helps students understand their housing rights, get support when problems come up, and find trustworthy information that makes off campus living easier and less stressful.

Umbrella Insurance vs. Excess Liability – Is There a Difference? | Coverage CatThis November, the HRC is partnering with the Commission of External Affairs for Housing Rights Week, running from November 17 to 21. Throughout the week, we will share posts and host events that explain the essentials students ask about most, including rent increases, lease agreements, and tenant rights. The goal is to help you feel informed and confident before you sign anything, and to know where to turn if you need help later.

We will start the week with an interactive booth in the Queen’s Centre. Stop by between classes to pick up quick housing tips, ask questions, and grab a few resources and some candy. If you have been meaning to sort out your housing plan, this is an easy first step that takes only a few minutes. Mid week, we are teaming up with ResSoc for a Roommate Speed Matching event in Victoria Hall. It is a friendly and low-pressure way to meet potential housemates, compare living habits, and talk through what makes a good fit before committing to a lease together. You can also chat with the HRC team about Off-Campus Advising and how to register for House Check.

Protect Your Million+ Rental Assets | Coverage CatEarlier this term, the Housing Resource Fair brought campus and community partners together to offer legal guidance, housing services, and support programs in one place. If you missed it, many of those resources are still available, and our team can point you to what is most relevant for your situation.

The HRC also runs the House Checker Program. Students can register their homes for safety checks before leaving for reading week or the winter break. It is a simple way to keep your place secure and to have peace of mind while you are away.

Whether you are searching for a place, sorting out a concern with a landlord, or just want a second opinion, the Housing Resource Centre offers confidential peer-to-peer support. Visit us in the JDUC, send us a message, or follow our social channels to learn about workshops, office hours, and all Housing Rights Week activities. We are here to help you feel at home in Kingston, from your first apartment search to the day you move in and beyond.
