Carr-Harris Challenge Cup Offers Fans a Chance to Win $10,000 This Saturday!

Queen’s Men’s Hockey returns to the ice this Saturday, Feb. 7, for the 38th Carr-Harris Challenge Cup against the RMC Paladins, and this year’s matchup comes with more than just rivalry bragging rights on the line. Fans attending the game at Slush Puppie Place will also have the opportunity to win $10,000 through a lottery tied to ticket purchases, adding an extra level of excitement to one of Kingston’s most historic sporting events.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. as the long-standing rivalry moves to a Saturday night Hockey Night format at a neutral downtown venue for the first time. The Carr-Harris Challenge Cup marks the 140th year of competition between Queen’s University and the Royal Military College of Canada, widely recognized as hockey’s oldest rivalry.

In addition to the historic significance of the matchup, this year’s event offers a unique incentive for fans. Every ticket purchased automatically enters attendees into a lottery for a chance to win $10,000, making the game both a major rivalry event and an opportunity for spectators to walk away with a significant prize.

On the ice, Queen’s enters the game in the midst of a competitive playoff race in the OUA East Division. The Gaels currently hold a 9-8-0 record and sit sixth in the standings as they continue their push toward postseason qualification. The Paladins, currently 2-16-0, will look to take advantage of the rivalry atmosphere and compete for the Carr-Harris Cup on home ice.

The Carr-Harris Cup was established in 1986 by former Gaels player and coach Stu Crawford, alongside hockey historians Bill Fitsell, Bill Hamilton, and Ed Grenda, to celebrate the enduring rivalry between the two institutions, which dates back to 1886. Over time, the event has grown into a marquee community gathering for the City of Kingston, regularly drawing large crowds and bringing together students, alumni, and local fans.

Tickets are on sale now and are also available at the Athletics and Recreation Centre Q Services desk. With the chance to witness a historic rivalry, support Queen’s Hockey, and potentially win $10,000, Saturday night’s Carr-Harris Challenge Cup offers fans more reasons than ever to be part of the action.
