AMS 2025 Fall Election Report

Below are the results of the 2025 AMS Fall Referendum. Voter turnout was 14.6%, representing a 2.7 percentage point increase, or roughly a 23% relative increase in turnout compared to last year. The higher participation rate indicates stronger student engagement with AMS Student Activity Fees and referendum questions.

• Yes: 66.6% 

• No: 33.4% 

• Abstain: 18.3% 

Result: Approved – new opt-outable fee for three years. 

2. AMS Food Bank – Mandatory Fee Increase ($4.00→$5.50) 

• Yes: 67.7% 

• No: 32.3% 

• Abstain: 12.4% 

Result: Approved – mandatory fee set at $5.50 for three years. 

3. Queen’s First Aid – Mandatory Fee Increase ($3.75→$4.25) 

• Yes: 66.5% 

• No: 33.5% 

• Abstain: 12.0% 

Result: Approved – mandatory fee set at $4.25 for three years. 

4. Kingston Canadian Film Festival – Fee Continuation ($0.50,Opt-Outable)

• Yes: 57.5% 

• No: 42.5% 

• Abstain: 15.9% 

Result: Approved – opt-outable fee continues for three years.  

5. CFRC 101.9 FM – Fee Continuation ($8.22,Opt-Outable)

• Yes: 52.8% 

• No: 47.2% 

• Abstain: 16.6% 

Result: Approved – opt-outable fee continues for three years. 

6. SWAM Kingston – Fee Continuation ($0.10,Opt-Outable)

• Yes: 77.7% 

• No: 22.3% 

• Abstain: 11.7% 

Result: Approved – opt-outable fee continues for three years. 

7. Queen’sEngiQueers– Fee Continuation ($0.05, Opt-Outable) 

• Yes: 60.5% 

• No: 39.5% 

• Abstain: 16.6%

8. Project Sunshine Queen’s Chapter – Fee Continuation ($0.15,Opt-Outable)

• Yes: 81.0% 

• No: 19.0% 

• Abstain: 10.8% 

Result: Approved – opt-outable fee continues for three years. 

9. Queen’s Bridge Building Team – Fee Continuation ($0.35,Opt-Outable)

• Yes: 56.7% 

• No: 43.3% 

• Abstain: 16.4% 

Result: Approved – opt-outable fee continues for three years. 

10. Queen’s Students 4 Special Olympics – Fee Continuation ($0.25,Opt-Outable)

• Yes: 81.4% 

• No: 18.6% 

• Abstain: 12.3% 

Result: Approved – opt-outable fee continues for three years. 

CONCLUSION 

All ten questions passed with majority support, resulting in: 

• One new opt-outable fee (Queen’s Pinoy Association); 

• Two increased mandatory fees (AMS Food Bank, Queen’s First Aid); 

• Seven renewed opt-outable fees for established services and clubs. 

Combined with the turnout increase from 11.9% to 14.6%, the Fall 2025 Referendum reflects both strong backing for key student services and a meaningful gain in student participation in AMS democratic processes.
