CROSS-CAMPUS ENVIRONMENTAL FORUM
A great opportunity to get involved with sustainability on campus!
This is a forum for all interested students and representatives of all environmental groups on campus in order to keep everyone informed as to what other groups are doing, to foster collaboration on larger projects, like Earth Week at Queen's and lobbying the university, and to support and encourage each other.

(STRIVE)
Students Taking Responsible Initiatives towards a Viable Environment
(STRIVE) is devoted to awareness and advocacy of environmental issues.
Members also seek to create a forum at the university level
in which environmental issues are discussed at a very holistic manner, thus
providing a more multifaceted and well-rounded approach to sustainability
initiatives. STRIVE is determined to make Queen’s a sustainable and more
environmentally friendly learning institution and to encourage the Queen’s
community to be active environmental leaders.

Queen’s Sustainability (QS)
Queen’s Sustainability primary responsibility is to relate and discuss
sustainability and environmental initiatives to Queen’s campus.
This committee will be working on monthly publications that advertise
green events on campus as well as doing follow up studies on the Campus
Sustainability Assessment Framework (CSAF) Project outlined by the Sierra Youth
Coalition. The committee is devoted to publishing information regarding
sustainability and making this information accessible for students.

Committee Member
Both STRIVE and QS are looking for highly motivated committee members
this fall. You will have the opportunity
to be involved with the inception, planning, and execution of events, campaigns,
and lobbying and be involved in the running of the committees. This is a great chance to gain leadership
experience, meet and work with other people interested in the environment and
sustainability, and to make a real difference at Queen’s and in Kingston.

First Year Intern
The Sustainability Officehas two lovely interns for 2007-2008. They work with
the Sustainability Co-ordinator and deputies and to develop their own projects
as well! This is a fantastic opportunity
to get to know how the AMS works from the inside and to contribute to the drive
toward sustainability at Queen’s.

Committee Volunteer
Are you interested in green or sustainability issues? QS and STRIVE are both inviting anyone interested
to get involved! As a volunteer, you can
have as much or as little input as you like.
These committees are a great chance to meet interesting people, help
plan and run or participate in events and other initiatives, and to help Queen’s
become a more sustainable place. Both
committees have a lot of fun projects planned for the year, and are also open

OTHER WONDERFUL GROUPS ON CAMPUS
Queen's Earth Centre is a group on campus that
provides environmentally-friendly products and advice on the impact of our
consumer choices. The Earth Centre is a volunteer-fun...oops....volunteer-RUN
organization, and students work in the store and are trained eco-saavy experts.
The Earth Centre is looking to expand in the coming year and would love for you

Queen’s Oxfam is a campus branch of Oxfam Canada
dependent on its enthusiastic and innovative members to highlight the important
role of Queen’s students in a global society. In its second year, Queen’s
Oxfam will pursue change on campus on issues of Fair Trade, Sweatshop Labour
and Food Security while running a Fair Trade Cooperative where students
can purchase Fair Trade goods on campus. Change begins with you.

Queen's Greens is a campus affiliate of the Green
Party of Canada. A large part of our mandate is encouraging student interest
and participation in municipal, provincial and federal politics, and helping
students to understand what Green politics can do for our country's
sustainability. We try to educate and raise awareness by setting up information
booths around campus, raising petitions, and promoting campaigns such as
Critical Mass.

ASUS Committee for
the Environment (ACE) strives
to raise awareness of the environmental issues on campus. A major awareness campaign takes place during
Earth Week, and throughout the year ACE implements initiatives that work
towards a more sustainable campus.

The Environmental
Development Committee (under the Engineering Society) is a group of students working to promote
awareness of environmental problems and challenges facing today’s society. We
investigate and implement possible solutions and support other environmental
initiatives. Volunteers from all disciplines and years are welcome.

Green Scheme is a not-for-profit urban greening organization that does greening projects around Kingston, involved with initiatives such as the Aberdeen Street tree planting.

Environmental Studies
Departmental Students’ Council (DSC) is a representative and social
organization within the School
of Environmental Studies. It represents the
department’s undergraduate students and organizes social events to bring
together the School’s faculty, staff, and students.
The Farmers’ Market @
Queen’s brings local, high quality and fresh tasting food to the Queen’s
community through regular markets on campus. The vision of the market is to
provide students easy access to locally produced food, thereby allowing an alternative
to the traditional commercial food industry.

Canadian Unified
Students Environmental Network (CUSEN) works to create relationships
between campus environmental groups. In this way, CUSEN is helping to increase
environmental and social awareness on campus and is helping to fund and
organize student-run initiatives. CUSEN funds the alternative resource library
and the Quattrocchi Community Garden
Queen's Sustainability Network sees itself as a venue to connect people from diverse backgrounds,
including faculty, staff, students, and members of the Kingston community for
the purpose of sharing ideas surrounding issues of sustainability in pursuit of
a common goal – to create positive social change at Queen’s. Last year the QSN hosted a one-day free
conference at Queen’s on sustainability.

Ontario Public
Interest Research Group (OPIRG) serves as a training ground for
activists. OPIRG seeks solutions to environmental and social justice issues by
empowering concerned citizens. OPIRG is home to the Alternative Resource
Library, which offers 1000s of resources on environmental sustainability and
social issues.

Society of
Conservation Biology educates students, faculty and members of the Kingston
community on issues pertaining to the conservation of biodiversity, and to work
to reduce the loss of biodiversity.

Canadian Water Resources Association
(CWRA) - the SYP Kingston Chapter was established in the fall of 2006. Members of the club,
consisting of both undergraduate and graduate students, attended local events
concerning water issues, planned film nights, and organized activities
associated with World Water Day 2007.

Living Energy Lab
is an exciting new initiative from the faculty of engineering that hopes to
provide practical and independent data on home energy conservation. It has taken two student rental houses and
transformed them into permanent living laboratories. These laboratories study
the effect of implementing environmental technologies and renewable energy
systems, while allowing students to live
year round in the retrofitted houses. The Living Energy Lab meets regularly and
is looking for volunteers from all faculties.

QUPID works to inspire awareness and action on
international and development-related issues and to provide a positive
environment for critical dialogue, while empowering socially-conscious choice
