The mission statement of the AMS Human Resources Office is “To ensure that all AMS members receive equitable access to employment and volunteer opportunities within the Society and that the experience is safe, productive and welcoming.” Achieving this goal each year requires the Human Resources Officer to oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation and appreciation of all 1500 AMS staff and volunteers. With a 100% turnover policy, employee development becomes a key factor in the continued success of the AMS, as does a smooth transition process from year to year. The Human Resources Officer is a source of information on Employee and Volunteer Policy, and your go-to person if you ever have questions about interviews, applications, or hiring in the AMS. The HRO, along with the VPUA, the Social Issues Commissioner, and the Information Officer, receives Harassment Advisor training each year and can offer advice, referral or just a listening ear on any harassment issue inside or outside the AMS.

The AMS Communications Officer is responsible for ensuring that the AMS communicates effectively with its constituents, the student body. The Communications Officer oversees the AMS website, puts together the AMS Guide to Queen’s (which you’re currently ready) and oversees all information campaigns that come out of the AMS. The Communications Officer works closely with all of the AMS commissioners, officers and directors to ensure that students aware of opportunities and initiatives taking place within the AMS, and how they can be a part of what goes on. The Communications Officer also oversees the Campus Research Committee, which conducts public opinion research throughout the year to find out what students think of current issues within the university. All general questions regarding the AMS can be directed to the Communications Officer, who has the resources to access information and address any specific concerns with the AMS that a student may have. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the AMS, feel free to contact the Communications Officer by phone or email, or stop by the main AMS offices in the lower JDUC.

The Sustainability Coordinator is a new position within the AMS and is committed to improving the environmental sustainability of Queen’s. This is done internally by assessing every aspect of the AMS and working for ways to decrease our environmental impact. As well as externally by initiating our own and supporting other sustainability initiatives carried out on campus. By doing this it is our hope that the sustainability coordinator will become the leader in the sustainability movement at Queen’s and transform the AMS into an on-campus environmental watchdog and steward.
