Queen's Bands to renew performances

February 02, 2012

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is pleased that the Queen’s Bands are resuming scheduled performances following their fulfillment of the conditions set by the University and the AMS in November.

“The Queen’s Bands represent a proud spirit of tradition and student involvement at Queens,” says AMS President Morgan Campbell. “We’re happy to see them return to good standing and we look forward to their future performances.”

The AMS and the University set joint conditions for the Bands in November following the discovery of materials containing offensive language being circulated internally. These conditions included the suspension of performances for the fall semester and human rights training for all members. The Bands executive has worked with bands alumni and their current membership to institute changes to the Bands’ Constitution, policies, and procedures to foster a more inclusive culture.

“The AMS sincerely commends the leadership that the Bands executive has shown,” says Campbell. “We recognize that the executive has worked very hard to enact positive, long-lasting changes.”

The University has also released a statement on the Queen's News Centre.
