The Alma Mater Society congratulates the new Rector
October 26, 2011
The Alma Mater Society (AMS) wishes to offer congratulations to Nick Francis, elected Rector on October 26th in the third round of preferential voting. Voter turnout was 31.5% for AMS members with 5120 votes, 44% above the 2011 AMS Executive Election turnout.
“I look forward to working with Mr. Francis,” said AMS President Morgan Campbell. “The high voter turnout in this election shows that he was able to engage students, and I have no doubt they will be able to do so diligently as the Rector.”
Six candidates ran for the position of Rector.
“I hope all of the other candidates will continue to remain engaged in student politics and find other ways to get involved,” added Campbell. “Student leadership can always use people with the level of passion showed by all of the candidates in this election.”
Francis replaces former Rector Nick Day who resigned on August 31, 2011.
