CFRC 101.9FM Presents: Art's Birthday Celebration
January 10, 2012
For Immediate Release
KINGSTON, ON – CFRC 101.9FM, Kingston's only campus-community radio station, presents an Art's Birthday Celebration on January 17. Art’s Birthday was first proposed in 1963 by French Fluxus artist Robert Filiou, who suggested that one million years ago, on the 17th of January, Art was born when someone dropped a sponge into a bucket of water. Filiou proposed a public holiday to celebrate the presence of art in our lives. The idea has been taken up by a loose network of radio and sound artists around the world.
This year, CFRC joins international Art's Birthday festivities with an Art’s Birthday celebration at the Artel, 205 Sydenham Street, on Tuesday, January 17, starting at 7pm and featuring live performances by local artists Decomposing Pianos, Andy Love, Neven Lochhead with Liam Cole, Happiness Is.., K.L. Sealegs, Lisa Aalders and David Woodward. Admission is by donation. The event will be broadcast live on CFRC 101.9fm and CFRC.ca as part of a day-long focus of Art On Air from 4pm until midnight.
CFRC 101.9fm is a not-for-profit, volunteer-programmed, local radio station with a community-access mandate. The Art's Birthday Celebration is supported by the Community Foundation of Kingston and Area. For more information, please call 613-533-2121 or visit CFRC.ca. Happy one-million-and-forty-ninth birthday, Art!
