AMS announces new Queen’s Centre retail services

KINGSTON, ON – The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is excited to announce after leading months of negotiations that the University has extended lease offers to two retailers to move in to the Queen’s Centre in 2012. The University is in the final stages of negotiating five year leases with a grocery store and a pharmacy to fill the currently empty spaces on the ground floor of the Queen’s Centre across from the food court. The names of these services will be released once negotiations are finalized.

“We are very excited to introduce these new services for students,” says AMS President Morgan Campbell. “Finding retailers that promote healthy student lifestyles was an important part of the platform on which we were elected, and we’re proud to be able to deliver on what students have told us they want.”

The two retailers are set to open by the spring of 2012.

“We wanted businesses that would complement the Queen’s community,” says AMS Vice-President of Operations Ashley Eagan. “These services will fill a service gap on campus and increase the accessibility of essentials like groceries and pharmaceuticals for busy students.”

The AMS will be releasing more details on the retailers and the exciting benefits that they offer the Queen’s community in January 2012.

The central undergraduate student government at Queen’s University, the AMS represents over 14,200 students and is the oldest student government in Canada. The constituency is represented through 12 faculty and residence societies. The AMS Council, which is made up of a three-person executive, six commissioners, and three directors, oversees all day-to-day activities within the Society, including 14 corporate services and various government committees that address virtually all matters of student life at Queen’s.
