Friends of Big Sandy
Bay
Not-for-profit association of volunteers dedicated to the
conservation, restoration and appreciation of the natural features of the Big
Sandy Bay on Wolfe Island. http://bigsandybay.ca
Canadian Water Resources Association
(CWRA)—SYP Kingston Chapter
As part of
the mentoring program of the CWRA, the Kingston chapter of the Society of Young
Professionals was established in the fall of 2006. Members of the club,
consisting of both undergraduate and graduate students, attended local events
concerning water issues, planned film nights, and organized activities

Yellow Bike
Reconditions bikes donated by the
community and lets community members borrow them for a $10 deposit. Also sells
donated and refurbished bikes which they paint yellow! Free children’s bikes,
free repair of bicycles. Contact through

Kingston Frontenac Public
Library
What better sustainable resource centre than a library? The
central branch is located at 130 Johnson St.

A great way to redirect good used items from the landfill to

Kingston Environmental
Advisory Forum
Volunteer committee with a mandate to identify environmental
issues and priorities in Kingston and to assist the city in the preparation of
an environmental strategy. KEAF is also expected to respond to special requests
from City Council for advice on environmental issues that may arise.

Kingston Greens
Constituency association for the Green Party. Kingston
Greens also organize periodic forums on environmental and political issues and
seek to raise environmental awareness in the Kingston area. Signing up to the newsletter “Green Light”

CEEC: Commerce and Engineering Environmental Conference
The Commerce and Engineering Environmental Conference is a
student-run event aimed at sharing insight into today's environmental problems,
and especially innovative solutions. This includes a broad range of topics;
from green buildings to fuel cells, wind power to brownfield cleanup, the sky

Earth Week
Takes place
in March and is organized by several environmental groups. Many different
events take place such as movie screenings, speakers, and the annual Eco-fair
in the Lower JDUC.
Ghetto Green-ups
Ghetto
green-ups will happen multiple times each year and will be organized in
conjunction with Green Scheme, the Municipal Affairs Commission, and the
Sustainability Office. It often is on weekends close to Homecoming and St.
Patrick’s Day—times when the ghetto may not look as green as it can J
Queen’s Farmers Market
The Farmers’ Market at Queen’s brings local, high quality
and fresh tasting food to the Queen’s community through regular markets on
campus. The vision of the market is to provide students easy access to locally
produced food, thereby allowing an alternative to the traditional commercial

Veggie Challenge
This event
is run by ASUS Committee for the Environment and spans over a week in first
semester. You can be challenged to become vegetarian or vegan and learn about
the impact different diets have on the environment. Keep your eyes and ears

Critical Mass
Supports
alternative transportation and happens on the last Friday of every month.
Community members
Critical
mass is a monthly bicycle ride celebrating cycling and asserting cyclists’
right to the road. Happens on the last Friday of every month, and you can meet
in front of the Sleepless Goat (91 Princess Street) with your bike at 5:30 and
be part of a critical mass movement of bikes.
Greendrinks
Every month people who work in the environmental field meet
up for a beer at informal sessions known as Green Drinks. Check out www.greendrinks.org/ for more information
about the next meeting date, location, and topic.
