The MAC is the largest and one of the most dynamic Commissions in the AMS. As a Commission, we have two important and overarching roles. First, we act as advocates for Queen’s students in the municipal sphere. We lobby various levels of government on everything from garbage and recycling to property standards to enforcement of the Fire Code. Second, we facilitate opportunities for students to give back to the Greater Kingston community as volunteers. Through this role of the MAC, Queen’s students can do anything from raising money for the United Way to tutoring local highschool students in subjects with which they have difficulty. The success of our Commission depends on the contribution of dedicated, motivated volunteers - so if you’re willing to devote your talents and gain valuable experience relevant in anything from law and social work to public-interest advocacy, this is the place for you. Come to the MAC with your questions and concerns about everything from landlord/tenant issues and delivery of municipal services to the best places to volunteer in the Kingston community and requesting free property inspections. We are Caring, Competent, and Committed to Queen’s students. We are YOUR AMS Municipal Affairs Commission.

We also hope to foster relevant and cogent dialogue about various socio-cultural issues that face Queen’s students. The commission is available for all students who take an interest in or would like advice about various issues. All students are invited to access the resources that the commission and the AMS have to offer.

The Sustainability Coordinator is a new position within the AMS and is committed to improving the environmental sustainability of Queen’s. This is done internally by assessing every aspect of the AMS and working for ways to decrease our environmental impact. As well as externally by initiating our own and supporting other sustainability initiatives carried out on campus. By doing this it is our hope that the sustainability coordinator will become the leader in the sustainability movement at Queen’s and transform the AMS into an on-campus environmental watchdog and steward.
