Nomination & Election Info
Nomination Period for the AMS Executive and Rector Elections, as well as the Winter Referendum, starts January 6th, 2014, and ends January 15th, 2014. The AMS Executive and Rector Elections provide an opportunity for AMS Members to vote for their incoming student leaders (President, VP Operations, and VP University Affairs) and student representative to the University (University Rector). The AMS Referendum provides a key opportunity for AMS Members to submit a plebiscite or fee-related question to address Student Activity Fee allocations.

Nomination packages for AMS Executive, University Rector, and for submission of a question for referendum can be picked up at the AMS Front Office, located in the JDUC, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m beginning January 6th. Please make sure you fill in the Sign-out Sheet at the AMS Front Desk when you pick up a package, and write down a legible email address that you can be reached at. The AMS Elections Team will be contacting you via this email address throughout the Elections/Referendum Period.

Voting days are January 28th and 29th, 2014. Online polls will open at 8:00 a.m. on the 28th and end at 8:00 p.m. on the 29th. Students are encouraged to actively get informed on the platforms and policies of AMS Executive and Rector candidates, as well as organizations and issues surrounding the Referendum questions.

More information, and voting process details, will become available via the AMS website and Queen’s webmail throughout this period. For up-to-date information on AMS Executive and University Rector elections, as well as the Winter Referendum, follow @AMSElectionTeam on Twitter and like our page at facebook.com/AMSElectionsTeam. The fall and winter referenda include plebiscite questions to gauge the student body’s opinion on certain issues, as well as fee questions for extra-curricular organizations, groups and clubs up for triennial review of optional or mandatory student fees. The winter AMS executive election also coincides with different faculty society executive elections run through the AMS, as well as elections for other offices within the AMS.
